How do I set up artwork for Brown Kraft cards with white ink?

White ink on Brown Kraft is printed as an overprint base that sits beneath your CMYK artwork, creating a bright white foundation for sharper, more vibrant colors. Areas without white ink will appear darker due to the natural color of the paper.

White ink requires a separate White Mask file, similar to Spot UV setup.

White Mask file guidelines:

  • Use 100% black (K only) to indicate where white ink will print
  • Use white for areas with no white ink
  • Mask file must be the exact same size as the artwork file
  • File must be vector-based and saved as PDF or EPS
  • Any value less than 100% black will print as semi-transparent

How white ink interacts with your artwork:

  • Color + White Mask → opaque, vibrant color
  • Color without White Mask → color prints directly on Kraft stock
  • White Mask only → white ink prints by itself
  • No color + no mask → Brown Kraft shows through

Use clean vector shapes and paths to ensure precise registration.
