How do I set up artwork for Brown Kraft cards with white ink?
White ink on Brown Kraft is printed as an overprint base that sits beneath your CMYK artwork, creating a bright white foundation for sharper, more vibrant colors. Areas without white ink will appear darker due to the natural color of the paper.
White ink requires a separate White Mask file, similar to Spot UV setup.
White Mask file guidelines:
- Use 100% black (K only) to indicate where white ink will print
- Use white for areas with no white ink
- Mask file must be the exact same size as the artwork file
- File must be vector-based and saved as PDF or EPS
- Any value less than 100% black will print as semi-transparent
How white ink interacts with your artwork:
- Color + White Mask → opaque, vibrant color
- Color without White Mask → color prints directly on Kraft stock
- White Mask only → white ink prints by itself
- No color + no mask → Brown Kraft shows through
Use clean vector shapes and paths to ensure precise registration.
