Complex Blend Modes Detected

Our system detected the use of layer blend modes (such as "Multiply," "Screen," "Overlay," or "Color Burn") in your design.

Why This Matters for Printing Blend modes dictate how colors on different layers interact with each other. While these effects are great for digital design, they are a form of "live transparency" that often fails to translate correctly to a commercial printing press. Complex blend modes can result in sudden color shifts, blocky artifacts, or elements printing completely opaque instead of blended.

How to Fix This Issue You must "bake in" the visual effect by flattening the artwork before uploading:

  • Option 1: Export as PDF/X-1a: When exporting your PDF from Adobe software, choose the PDF/X-1a:2001 preset. This is the industry standard for flattening blend modes safely.
  • Option 2: Rasterize the Graphic: If a specific graphic is causing issues, select the elements involved, go to Object > Rasterize (in Illustrator), and ensure the background is set to transparent and the resolution is 300 ppi.

Need more help? If your blend modes are altering the color heavily after flattening, you may need to manually adjust the colors in CMYK mode. Let us know if you need assistance!
